Ice Cream Sandwich on the Samsung Captivate

Well by now you have probably heard the news that the Galaxy S phones will not be getting an official update to Android's latest, Ice Cream Sandwich. This doesn't come as much of a surprise, considering we have yet to see the Gingerbread update AT&T promised last year. So is all hope lost?

Thankfully the Galaxy S phones, including our beloved Cappy, have a talented and eager crowd of developers supporting it. They have been providing us many great Gingerbread ROMs,and now many of them have turned their attention to bringing us ICS. At the moment there are not one, but two, ICS ROMs in development. The first is being developed by onecosmic and the other by teamhacksung, which will eventually become CM9.

Both are very impressive. They have come along way in a short amount of time. I've switched back and forth between the two and can say they are becoming quite stable. Though there are still bugs and quirks to be found and fixed, most would find either of these to be suitable for use as their daily driver.

So if your feeling adventurous, head on over and give it shot. Here are some screenshots featuring teamhacksung's build 12.

I love the new Google Reader Widget for ICS.
