Amazing Adventures Creative Connections and Daring Deeds by Tim and Alison Simpson

Amazing Adventures Creative Connections and Daring Deeds by Tim and Alison Simpson seeks to re-energize family devotions. The book has 40 chapters, each with a new idea for growing together as a family and towards God. Each one starts with a verse of scripture and a paragraph or two containing the idea on which the devotion will be centered. Next is the "reaching in" portion containing the family activity used to illustrate the idea and to draw the members out, engaging them in the discussion. Questions are included to aid the conversation.  Next is "Reaching into the word." Here a portion of scripture is designated to be read, followed by questions listed in recommended age groups to help bring out the meaning and application of the passage for everyone. To finish off each devotion there is a section on "reaching into the world." Here ideas are given to further develop the lesson by seeking to mobilize the family to go out and practice what they have learned.

All in all, this book does a good job of presenting ideas to rally the family to engage truth, with the emphasis on application. The activities should work well with most families. For the very young it is suggested that they draw and color their answers and ideas for their participation. If nothing else is accomplished by reading these Amazing Adventures, it is that family devotions are a must for growth in living for Jesus and that they must be intentional. These things won't happen on their own.

I'd rate it 3 out of 5 stars.
