Book Review: John Bunyan Christian Encounters series

The Pilgrim's Progress is one of my favorite books so when I came across Kevin Belmonte's biography of it's author John Bunyan I jumped at the chance to read it. This book is an excellent choice and an easy read for exploring the life and times of John Bunyan. Nothing is more encouraging than to know that the great saints of old were actually real people with real struggles and Bunyan is no exception. The account of his conversion isn't the fairytale fantasy that we often give to these men. Bunyan struggled intensely in his surrender to Christ, haunted by his sinfulness and doubting of his worth. The son of a tinker and destined to be so himself, God called him to preach and to write and to suffer for the sake of the gospel. But it is through his suffering of tragedies and imprisonments that he was used to leave a legacy that is still felt today. John Bunyan's life can be an encouragement to us all when facing difficulties and discouragements. I recommend this book to all who would like to learn more of this hero of the faith. I'd like to thank Thomas Nelson for sending me this free copy for review.
